DESTINATION WEDDINGS IN FRIULI A wedding in Friuli is ideal for couples wanting to discover authentic Italy with its traditions and lovely towns and cities. Friuli offers wine country, castles, charming medieval hill towns and superb food and shopping. It is one of our favorite destinations. As far as location you have lakes, beaches and alps all within 1 hour's drive. Venice is 1.5 hours away. Hard to beat! WEDDINGS IN FRIULI Why not get married in Friuli, a culturally and geographically diverse region in the north of Italy with an amazing amount to offer? Friuli's inhabitants have a real sense of their identity, and many speak a regional dialect alongside Italian. Whilst regional identity is strong, Friuli can appear vastly different from town to town, and in different areas of the countryside. This is the region where Central and Mediterranean Europe meet, and, from Adriatic lagoons to Alpine pasture, Friuli brings together many diverse experiences.
  • Some of the most significant early Roman remains in Italy, including a stunning basilica, are found in Aquileia, which is surrounded by rivers and flatlands. Another historically significant town is Cividale del Friuli, which was founded by Caesar in 50 BC.
  • A place where ancient and modern meet is Trieste. This port city's castle and cathedral date back many centuries, whilst its neoclassical center is more recent and many other parts of the city are resolutely 21st century. This appealing mix makes Trieste one of the most popular destinations in the region.
  • Friuli's second city is Udine, which lies to the north west of Trieste. This wealthy city is a magnet for lovers of art and culture, with countless fine buildings, galleries, churches and piazzas. Its market is also very popular. Udine's unique feature is a network of small canals which run alongside its streets.
  • Between Trieste and Udine lies Gorizia, a town whose proximity to Yugoslavia gives it a distinctive Central European feel. Gorizia is a wonderful place to while away your time, with many parks, gardens, cafés, restaurants and shops.
  • Another recommended town is Gemona, surrounded by picturesque countryside: meadows, orchards, forests and pastures. In complete contrast, the lively lagoon resort of Grado is ideal for those who love sun and sand. The early Christian town center has also been preserved here.
  • Friuli is a great place to get married. This lovely region has something for everyone and is a truly memorable place to celebrate your wedding in Italy.
